Possibly one of the longest running technologies to transform America into a clean energy economy has been solar panels. This is not a new technology but a fairly expensive one that has hit cost speed bumps over the decades, pushing it out of the minds of many homeowners and power plants looking at all the different energy options. There are always those few who see going green as a way of life more then a political buzz word who have accepted the cost of solar thermal energy as a long term investment and gone forth with adding solar panels to a home, business or in the case of Florida Power & Light, power plant after understanding the money spent to upgrade will be recouped over time.
As you will see in the video attached above, very recently, earlier this week actually, President Obama flew down to Florida to speak to a group of eager onlookers about the solar thermal energy achievement Florida Power & Light has accomplished after building the largest field of solar panels in the nation. Framed perfectly behind the President, the solar panels according to the words of Obama will power an entire city, create jobs and over 30 years save 575,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
The President continues with something to the effect of: as amazing as this solar thermal energy power plant is, it is just one shining step in the right direction for a country who still has to completely renovate the process of producing and delivering power for homes and businesses the country over.
There may be a lot of work to be done in terms of making solar panels a more viable option but there has been progress and the video above is a perfect example. There is so much potential in solar panels. As technology furthers, producing solar panels will drop in price and in the future they may be a standard feature on all new construction builds in sunny regions. Examples like this power plant, the average homeowner who has solar panels on their roof and websites like American National Solar at www.americannationalsolar.com is proof America is moving towards a clean energy economy. Obviously there is more work to be done but over the next handful of decades, I see our country really transforming itself into a leader of going green. We have to work with the environment instead of controlling it and after watching videos like the one above, reading articles featured on such subjects and coming across websites like American National Solar, I am convinced the popular American mindset is moving in this direction.
