I was first introduced to LEED Certification in a How Technology Effects Society class in my final semester in college. A guy did a presentation on how LEED Certified buildings are the future not only for people going green but for the everyday architect. The video below explains what it means to be LEED certified. I was reminded of this presentation the other day after stumbling across an article called A Green Certification on the Horizon for the White House? at greenerbuildings.com. Apparently, the president’s environmental committee is planning a White House overhaul to set an example for where our country is heading in building construction.
Going green decades ago was looked at as a hippie dream; today it is not only a cost efficient way to live but a cleaner way to live. Using the highest grade technology to install solar panels, instant water heaters, R-410A pumping air conditioning units and the like is a step in the right direction for our country who has always been more on the wasteful side. Going green actually can be beneficial to the people who love to leave all their lights on, electronics buzzing and electrical hogs juicing 24/7 because the cost is so low.
