hydroelectric power, global warming With Global Warming, many changes to our planet our occurring. The most published change is the melting of our planet’s ice caps. This phenomenon will raise the level of our oceans and possibly surrounding rivers and streams when higher elevation snow pack melts quicker and runs into the world’s network of waterways. What this means can be looked at in negative light or we can pull the positive from it, which are more places for hydroelectric power. I attached a video below that gives a quick summary of how hydroelectric power works.

We have all seen a dam before. What needs to occur for hydroelectric power is a drop in water level. The high to low water flows down a channel into a rotor, which spins a generator creating energy. This is of course the simplest way to think about it but as you will see in the video makes the most sense. With the potential for higher degrees of water levels in the world’s future, I think hydro power will only become more accessible and important. From bad can always come good with a little bit of thinking.
