This summer I experimented with several different ways with going green. I've been trying to cut my electric bills so I have more money for fun things, and our air conditioner costs us about $250 a month to run. I saw two energy efficient window air conditioners with high SEER ratings on sale and bought them, the larger one for the main part of the house, and the smaller one for my office. July was the hottest on record, and my electric bill went from $290 to $117 using those two window units. We made no sacrifice in comfort inside, either. By morning the house was a comfortable 72 and in the afternoons it never got over 82. We live in Phoenix where these indoor temperatures are wholly acceptable. Slashing my electric bill with the assistance of energy efficient appliances was such a good move toward going green, saving the environment, and keeping more money in my pocket. Our savings were even greater than I thought they would be, so from now on, I'm looking for the Energy Star label on every appliance I buy from now on.
