This has been my first full year living in the Los Angeles area. When I came last year it was about this time, and the wild fires were happening as usual. There was even a couple days I couldn’t get the office because the fire had jumped the 5 freeway. This year though LA County saw a whole new animal with the La Canada wild fire, being called the biggest in LA history. It is predicted that it will not be contained until September 15. Could this be because of Global Warming? I don’t know. But I do know it has been freaken hot here even without the smoky overcast holding in all the summer heat.
There is no doubt the environment is changing. Whether or not some of the major natural disasters we saw around the world this year are related to Global Warming, I don’t know. Proponents fighting to stop Global Warming will use examples like the massive LA brush fire as an example. And those on the other side of the fence will say these kinds of things happen every year. Not being a scientist or Global Warming expert my opinion is void but I do know nothing like this happened last year.
