environment, going green We are getting to the point when going green isn’t just a choice anymore. More and more federal laws are passing that make it beneficial from a financial standpoint to upgrade to products safer for the environment. I used to sell HVAC equipment, otherwise known as heating, ventilation and air conditioning. I learned that people in the hotter climates like Southern California need a constant flow of refrigerated air to stay comfortable. Anyone who runs AC a lot knows how expensive it can get. It is the largest electrical draw in a home next to something like a pool pump. I also learned that R-22, aka Freon is a refrigerant in 90 percent of American homes, which will stop being manufactured in 2010 because of its chlorine content. Chlorine destroys the environment’s atmosphere so when it leaks out of refrigerant lines it is no good. This is why we don’t use it on car ACs anymore.

The new stuff is called R-410a and works just as good, a bit better even but doesn’t have chlorine in it to hurt the environment. For those going green in an AC using region of the country this is a very great upgrade to consider.
