going green, environmentAbout a month ago, I had all of my plans set and ready to go as to where I’d be living when my old lease ran its course. The people I was set to live with fell through and shortly thereafter I was online searching like a mad man for new places to live. Almost like fate, two buddies also needed a place to live and the rest is history. Our search was short but thorough. We knew the area we wanted to live in and the price range. After finding a new construction we could all afford contract papers hit the table.

Now we are all here and the conveniences of an environmentally friendly place are really starting to show their face. The first thing I notice were the low flush toilets. I don’t think I would have made this observation if the property manager didn’t point them out but they work as well as any other toilet but help to conserve water. In Southern California anywhere a person can save water is fantastic for the environment. Then I found out all of the bathroom light switches have motion sensors on them so if there is inactivity for 30 minutes they turn off automatically.

At my old place, they just now started placing small cardboard bins for bottles, apart from that recycling couldn’t be found. This new place makes it easy. All the trash goes into big bins in the parking garage which are then sorted by the trash company to recyclable and landfill junk. We don’t have solar panels but I can see them becoming the next big thing on new constructions a decade down the road.

I’m happy to be living in a place with a going green mindset because it not only helps the planet but calls for new appliances and such which are always easier and more convenient to use. Now that I have been schooled in some of the new going green tech my eyes will be peeled to spot it in other buildings. Between websites like American National Solar at http://www.americannationalsolar.com/ and property companies willing to go the extra mile with environmentally friendly building tech, this world is going to be a cleaner place faster then many may think. This way of life is not a trend it is the way of the future. As new constructions set the pace, older buildings and homes will play catch up until everyone can say that they are going green.
