going green, technology

I read an article recently where a gym is using the patrons workout to power the facility. I was curious as to how that would work and read further. The gym is going green as members use the exercise machines. The energy is harnessed and instantaneously sent back into the fitness center. This becomes a continuous loop of energy as the people make it and the building uses it.

Going green at the gym is easy on the facility itself. The center does not need to alter or adjust their space in order to accommodate this technology. The main processing unit is the size of two desktop computers and is mounted on the wall. Then transmission lines and cabling is installed to transport the energy from the workout machines back in to power the gym. Installation takes no more than three days.

Making renewable energy and going green at the gym just makes sense from what I have read. Why not use the energy members create with their workout? The article also stated that the patron can view the amount of electricity they personally produce in real time. That's pretty cool!
