January 2010 was one of the cloudiest we have had in Phoenix in years. We had chilly weather and lots of rain, and when I got my electric bill I almost croaked. We had to do all our cooking in the house because it was too cloudy to cook in our solar ovens outside. We had to use the stove and oven and our electric bill sure reflected it. Solar cooking is not only a big power saver, it's also good for the environment, too. People who want to practice going green to protect the environment can benefit from solar cooking. It's not expensive to get the ovens and some enterprising folks even make their own with excellent results. The types of meals that can be prepared in them is virtually unlimited and they are delicious. We've been solar cooking for 10 years and after a 30 day hiatus in January, will be solar cooking as long as we've got good sunshine and are able to. It really makes a difference in our utility bill and the food is so easy to cook since it requires no stirring, not even for risotto or polenta.
