Technology will be the answer to many of the world’s pollution problems. One could say that technology got us into the predicament we are in now and I’d agree. New technology can always go one of a couple ways depending on how society adopts it. Like last night, Oprah was on TV and she was featuring a documentary about the state of our poultry, beef and farming practices. Let’s just say the short clips I saw from the documentary did not make a hamburger look to appealing. Genetically altered chickens have larger breasts with smaller bones making it harder for them to move around. We are basically mass-producing meats with heavy antibiotics because of technology.
On the other side of the coin, technology has created solar panels, hybrid cars, instant water heaters and advances in hydroelectric power. As hard as it will be this country needs to move away from mass production and focus on individual problems. Start in the polluted cities and go from there instead of throwing cash at it and hoping for an answer. That’s my idea.
