This summer we are planning a working vacation by packing up the kids and heading to the beaches of Southern California where we plan to camp and set up our solar ovens during the day to solar cook. We cook just about everything using sunshine because the energy is free and is an incredibly effective way to cook and help the environment at the same time. This will be our first experience cooking in public, and we consider it a working vacation because we are involved in promoting solar cooking in the US.
We got involved in it when we bought our first home in Phoenix and found the air conditioning bills in the summer were sky high. We looked at solar cooking as a viable way to generate free electricity to cook and since we've started, we not only love the solar cooked food, but we also love to help the environment by reducing our electrical demand at home. Each square foot of solar oven panels creates 100 watts of free electricity. This summer, we hope to show other campers and folks on California's sunny beaches how easy it is to do.
